Investigation Leads To Underground Bunker

An ongoing investigation into a number of farm thefts in the Santa Maria area took an interesting turn this week. Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Rural Crime detectives were looking for stolen property at a transient camp in the area of A Street and La Brea Avenue Monday. That’s when they noticed a 10-foot hole in the ground. The hole was connected to a makeshift underground bunker. According to a press release, investigators discovered numerous stolen items including welding equipment, sports memorabilia, and a laptop. They also found 31-year-old Daniel Nunez. He’s now facing a number of charges and is being held without bail due to outstanding warrants.
