The San Luis Obispo City Council has decided to take a stand against public monuments that commemorate people. Earlier this week, the council decided that it will be changing the city’s public art policy to not include specific, historic individuals. Mayor Heidi Harmon stated that it made sense for San Luis Obispo to celebrate ideas and ideals and not individual people. City staff members will draft new public art guidelines before the council votes on the issue.
