Environmental Battle Brewing Between Feds And California

It’s mostly the wealthy who want electric cars. That’s the word from the Trump administration, which is repealing California’s right to set its own higher emissions standards for vehicles. His administration says they’re helping auto manufacturers make cheaper options which means consumers can replace their older cars and trucks with modern, safer models. Critics say this is the President playing up to Big Oil. Elaine Chao, Secretary of Transportation, this morning said, average working Americans don’t want environmentally-friendly cars. Meanwhile, California has vowed to fight in court…and by rewarding car companies who abide a higher standard, by giving rebates to buyers of those cars. The coastal state is particularly vulnerable to climate change and has had cleaner emissions standards in place since 1970.
