Pier One Imports Closing Stores

A once-popular home goods retailer is surrendering to the internet. ABC reports that Pier One Imports will be holding ‘going out of business’ sales soon at half of its 942 North American locations. The Ft Worth, Texas, based company says, with consumers increasingly going online to shop for home goods, it no longer makes sense to focus on brick and mortar stores. The company that started with one store in San Matteo, California in 1962, quickly grew through the 70s and 80s in part, on the popularity of its Papasan chair. Pier One..now says it’ll focus more on its internet operations.
