Deadly Accident Has Parks Officials Urging Dune Users to Practice Safety

A deadly accident at the Oceano Dunes over the weekend has State Park Rangers reminding visitors about personal and public safety. Between 5 and 7,000 people visited the Dunes each day this holiday weekend and they expect roughly 2 million visitors over the remainder of the year. State Parks officials say they have increased their Ranger presence on the dunes, making vehicle stops and educating drivers about the need for safety while on the sand. Rangers say most accidents are preventable and they ask visitors to slow down, know your skillset and the rules.
