A series of pile burns will begin today in the Los Padres National Forest. Crews have been clearing potential wildfire fuels over the past several weeks in the Figueroa Mountain area. Now they will be burning roughly five to ten acres of dead trees and brush over the next few days. Officials say the goal is to reduce the risk of a future fire in the area. Weather permitting, the burn operations will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. beginning today and wrapping up on Friday. It’s just one of several prescribed burns scheduled for this month.
