Numerous 911 calls to the CHP late Sunday night may have prevented a tragedy. The callers were reporting a wrong-way driver on Highway 46 east of Paso Robles. When CHP officers arrived, they found Lorenzo Gonzalez Ortega stopped, facing east in the westbound number 1 lane with his headlights off. He was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI and multiple warrants. Thankfully no one was injured. If you see a suspected drunk driver, the CHP encourages you to cal 911.
