Firefighters Working El Capitan Fire

Firefighters from Santa Barbara County and the U.S.Forest Service were called out to a blaze that closed a section of Highway 101 yesterday afternoon for a brief time. The El Capitan Fire broke out at about 4:30, forcing evacuations and threatening structures. Crews battled the wind-whipped flames from the ground and in the air. The fire scorched about 443 acres and was last reported to be 20 percent contained. crews are still on scene this morning. The cause is under investigation.
