Black Friday and Cyber Monday were relative successes for retailers. Now packages are starting to show up on doorsteps and front porches across the country and the Central Coast. The US Postal Service projects 800 million deliveries between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve. According to a study recently conducted by the New York Times, more than 1-point-7 million packages are stolen or go missing around the country. It’s become such a problem that some states are trying to pass new laws. In Texas, package thieves could face up to ten years in prison, and in my home state of South Carolina, a bill there would make stealing a package a felony. Morro Bay police are currently investigating a porch pirate case that happened in the area of Monterey Avenue and Surf Street.
