Sales tax in Santa Maria jumped a bit yesterday. Voters approved the increase and the new tax rate is 8.75 percent. According to city officials, the increase is meant to maintain and enhance city services, including police and fire protection, 9-1-1 emergency response, youth services and overall quality of life in Santa Maria.
