April is distracted driving awareness month and the CHP will be looking for drivers who are paying attention to things other than driving. The CHP wants to educate drivers of the importance of traveling free of distractions, as well as cracking down on drivers who violate the state’s hands-free laws. Last year, over 109,000 citations were issued for hands-free cell phone violations. In 2017, 66 people were killed and 6,500 were injured in distracted driving related crashes. The CHP will be looking for people who are looking at their phones or obviously driving distracted.
