The Texas oil pipeline company that was found responsible for an oil spill at Refugio State Beach in 2015 was sentenced yesterday. According to the Tribune, Plains All American was ordered to pay 3.35 million dollars for nine criminal counts related to the spill that killed hundreds of birds and marine mammals. Plains All American officials say the fine won’t hurt the company’s bottom line. A number of environmental groups feel the punishment is too light. Plains All American wants to replace the section of pipeline that leaked, along with the 124 miles of pipeline that runs through Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Kern counties.
