Otter Population Declines

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has released its 2019 Sea Otter census survey. Officials say the numbers show a slight decrease in the sea otter population. The population has seen a slight decline over the past 3 years. Scientists believe the fewer number of sea otters is not the result of human activity, but a rebounding population of great white sharks. Scientists have been keeping tabs on the otter population since 1983 when they were first put on the endangered species list.
