Alarming Spike In COVID-19 Cases In SLO County

San Luis Obispo County public health officials are concerned by what they call an “alarming spike in COVID-19” cases in recent days. Yesterday, the county reported 74 new cases of the virus. According to a press release, in the past 72 hours, 156 new cases have been confirmed. Almost 75 percent of the new cases involve young adults 18-to-29 years old. Contact tracing has found a significant number of cases tied to Cal Poly and involves students who are gathering without proper safety precautions. Health officials hope the recent spike doesn’t move the county backward in the reopening process.
