The U.S. Forest Service, which governs the Los Padres National Forest announced yesterday that it plans to begin prescribed burns in certain parts of the local forest. Weather permitting, the burns will take place in the forests of Figueroa Mountain, Pine Canyon Station, Frazier Mountain and as far away as Big Sur. Officials say they are trying to reduce and mitigate big fires and get the forest back to a healthy state.
