Santa Maria water and sewer rates could be on the rise over the next few years. A public hearing is scheduled for today’s city council meeting. If approved, the rate hikes would take effect in July of next year. The city says most households will could see an increase in their bills as soon as January. Officials say the hikes are needed to maintain an aging infrastructure.
